The Project in Brief
In 2008 Vodafone announced a contest for designer students at the budapester Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design to design a product physically or literally around the Vodafone 3G modem which would sell and promote this tool for the Vodafone Company.
Case Study
Me and my 2 friends and classmates formed a group to create artworks for the contest. The two other members were Andras Suto and Andras Lorinczy. We gave in more ideas for this contest. We were thinking in products mostly. I now present the winning artwork here.
The basic idea came from me for this artwork. It originated from the flow of thoughts that now the internet comes from the air, like 'wherever you are' - as also the Vodafone slogan says or said at the time. I imagined huge Zeppelins to ride over the city and letting down modems from the air to show people the message that now the internet comes from the air.
As we needed more like a product and this sounded more like just a proactive promotion idea, I started to think forward. I put the modem itself into a small Zeppelin that could be connected to a notebook and there it was. There was something around the modem that clearly showed the idea that it is just right there where the internet comes from, in the air. And it has a gag, it is fun and strongly provocative, also really up to promotion.
We won the 1st prize with the idea. I have to mention, idea is just one thing, we selected the ideas worth together from a big bunch of ideas and ideas need to be developed to become a product. I really have to thank for the great teamwork, we established 3 good products in a really short time.
